Fecal incontinence is one of the most sensitive challenges in incontinence care, yet dedicated solutions have historically been few and far between. Most care facilities have been working around this with standard incontinence products that simply weren't designed for the job. That affects the people in your care, and it adds pressure to your team.

We believe every person living with incontinence should have access to the right solution for their specific needs. Fecal incontinence requires specialized care, and the consequences of the wrong product go beyond leakage. Fear of odor, skin irritation, and loss of dignity affect daily life significantly. For caregivers, limited product options have meant limited ability to respond to a very real and common care need.

What fecal incontinence care actually requires

Fecal incontinence looks different from person to person. It ranges from light soiling and small, occasional leakages to heavier, loss of bowel control, and in many cases involves both urinary and fecal incontinence at the same time. Each situation calls for a different approach.

Skin health is a particular concern. Fecal matter is significantly more irritating to the skin than urine, making the risk of IAD higher and the need for quick, reliable containment more urgent. Odor management is equally important, not just for the comfort of the person, but for their sense of dignity and their ability to engage in daily life without anxiety.

Introducing San Special Fecal 

ABENA San Special Fecal is a complete range designed specifically for fecal incontinence, from light soiling and small incidents to heavier, sudden loss of bowel control and double incontinence. Every product in the range provides reliable leakage and odor protection, giving the people in your care the security and dignity they deserve.

ABENA San Special F1, available from August, is designed for light soiling and small incidents, with built-in odor control so the person's dignity is protected until the pad can be changed.

ABENA San Special F1 includes:

  • Charcoal to absorb the odor
  • Special care for those with wounds or inability to close the sphincter muscle
  • Support for those with chronic bowel disorder


ABENA San Special F3, available from October, is for heavier soiling and loss of bowel control, designed to conceal leakages so dignity stays intact. 

ABENA San Special F3 includes: 

  • Support for those who can react to fecal incontinence 
  • Green back panel to conceal the soiling

ABENA San Special F4 is for individuals who are unaware of or unable to react to incidents, providing reliable protection that ensures comfort and dignity even when they can't manage it themselves. 

ABENA has been working with incontinence care for over 70 years. In that time, fecal incontinence has consistently been one of the areas where care staff have had the fewest options and the least support.
