Environment and Planet
As a provider of disposable products, we take responsibility for our part in tackling issues related to the environment.
From commitment to action
With our commitment to SBTi, we are setting goals on how to reduce GHG emissions across our value chain. As part of the process, we are building a detailed overview of our total climate footprint. This enables us to identify the areas where intervention will have the greatest impact.

Transforming the Diaper System
In March 2024, we joined forces with the University of Southern Denmark, Design School Kolding, Aarhus and Odense municipalities, and Odense Renovation to uncover the possibility of making Denmark's diaper system more circular by 2030.
Approaching Circularity: Reusing Single-use Textiles at Hospitals
ABENA is tackling the challenge of residual waste in healthcare through an innovative pilot project in Denmark. By exploring the reuse of disposable textiles from hospitals, we aim to increase circularity and transform waste into new raw materials, while maintaining the high hygiene standards required in the sector.
Approaching Circularity: Paper Made from Milk Cartons
At ABENA, we are advancing circularity by turning waste into resources. Our paper category, T3 Natural Paper is made from recycled Tetra Pak milk cartons.
New System to Recycling Microfibers
In close collaboration with Nordisk Microfiber (NMF), ABENA has introduced a new recycling system for cloths and mops made from microfiber. The system is called TAKE BACK.
Reducing Emissions from Distribution
ABENA GmbH has entered into a new distribution agreement in Germany, which has contributed to emission reduction efforts.
Testing New Technologies
In Växjö, Sweden, we are testing a technology that optimizes the airflow from our ventilation system.
Optimized Palletizing Improve Costs and Climate Impact
In Aabenraa, Denmark, ABENA’s production facility has just finished a successful pallet optimization project. Now, economic and environmental benefits are gained by optimizing product packaging. In fact, last year, the same amount of products were shipped in 80 fewer containers for one of ABENA’s customers. That saved the customer 4% in the landed cost price.
Ma Petite Planète | ABENA
In 2024, we carried out 1,089 challenges related to environmental care as part of the global initiative - Ma Petite Planète.
Alternative Packaging with a Reduced Impact
To limit the use of nature’s resources, our incontinence products and Bambo Nature baby diapers come in one of the following two packaging alternatives to virgin plastic.
Bringing Ecolabeled Products Closer to Customers
In April 2024, ABENA A/S became members of the Network for Ecolabeled Procurement, facilitated by Ecolabelling Denmark.
Teamwork for the Sustainable Development Goals
In March 2023, bees, bird nesting boxes, insect hotels, apple trees, and currant bushes moved into ABENA Germany, Zörbig location.
