Science-Based Targets initiative

ABENA has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Near-term and net-zero targets are set and now pending validation.

Aligning our business with the Paris Agreement

In December 2024, we committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) with the aim to align our climate targets with the 1.5°C limit set by the Paris Agreement.

Targets are set, validation is pending, and a phased plan covers scopes 1, 2, and 3. You can expect transparent baselines, documented progress, and practical actions that tie energy, materials, and circularity to measurable reductions.

Where are we now

Targets submitted to SBTi and validation in progress. We expect to confirm baselines and publish the full overview in our ESG Report 2025/26.

What changes for you

More documentation, broader scope 3 coverage, and a clearer link between product choices, circular design, and emissions across the life cycle. First formal progress reporting starts in 2025/26.

ESG

A new baseline to track progress

We have established a new baseline that is presented in our ESG Report 2024/2025. We will measure progress annually against this baseline so you can follow our development with clarity.

Near-term and net-zero targets

To align with SBTi, we have carried out a natural revision of previous climate targets to ensure alignment with current scientific standards and strategic priorities. Our new ambition replaces the previous focus on scope 1-2 and will include absolute reductions across scopes 1, 2, and 3. The SBTi validation is in progress; percentages and base year are subject to the final SBTi admission. We expect our new targets to be approved within 2025.

To your advantage

  • Clearer carbon data: We will map products and categories to our updated scope 1–3 baselines and publish progress annually.
  • Verified frameworks: Emissions accounting follows the GHG Protocol; progress references recognized standards and third-party schemes.
  • Practical guidance: Expect support on material choices (recycled/renewable where suitable), multi-use share, and circular models that reduce waste and risk.

where impact is highest

A broader focus on Scope 3

Most climate impact sits beyond our own facilities. We are expanding Scope 3 reporting and action across all 15 categories, prioritizing the biggest emitters, improving data quality with primary supplier data, and focusing on concrete levers such as materials, logistics, and use-phase energy.

This approach helps you access clearer product footprints and more targeted hotspot discussions.

Our key focus areas

Decarbonizing

Decarbonization is central to our transition. We prioritize robust Scope 1-3 accounting, energy efficiency, responsible electricity procurement, logistics optimization, and supplier engagement to reduce upstream impacts.

In the financial year 2025/26, we will quantify our reduction results against our targets and publish transparent, comparable progress.

Circular economy

We are integrating a circular approach into product design, processes, and future business models. Our focus is on responsible material selection, efficient resource use, and waste minimization.

In the financial year 2025/26, we will measure how circular initiatives contribute to CO₂e reduction and build insight into how circularity supports pollution reduction.
