Three questions to Preben Terp Nielsen, ABENA’s CEO, on the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
1. What does it take to be certified with the FSCTM label?
Becoming FSCTM (Forest Stewardship Council) certified is the result of a long process. It takes an extensive amount of documentation and requires full traceability of the tree we use as raw materials for our products. That goes for the products we produce at our own factories as well as the products we source globally. Requirements for social responsibility and protecting labor rights are also central elements that need to be met to become certified.
We make sure that every single supplier who is in touch with our FSCTM-labeled products is also FSCTM-certified. That includes those responsible for the planting, growing and felling of the trees, to lumber mills or paper mills, and to the production units where our products are made.
It is important to us to provide our customers with full transparency in their purchasing situation. Therefore, we have employed in-house experts certified according to ISO 50.001 and trained by the FSCTM to ensure that our certified products meet all requirements for documentation and marketing.
2. Which value does it give our customers that ABENA is FSCTM certified?
Today, we see an increasing demand for sustainable products within any industry. Fortunately, sustainability is in ABENA’s DNA and it is not new to us to think high-quality, social responsibility, and environmental care into our products.
Our FSCTM certification is a recognition of how we live up to the strict standards for sustainability in the market. It tells the story that we partner with some of the best experts around the world so that we can provide our customers with responsibly produced and sourced products. Finally, we use our certification to tell our customers that we have full traceability on all our FSCTM certified products, just as we also offer full documentation on our additional 36,000 products.
3. Why are ecolabels important to ABENA?
We strive to leave a better planet for future generations in everything we do. It is important to us that our grandchildren do not have to worry about scarce natural resources. For that reason, we prioritize ecolabels as a part of our global business strategy. We see them as a guarantee to our customers that they partner up with a company that proudly takes on its responsibility.
