Abena has developed a new wet wash glove optimized for full body wash.
Personal hygiene is extremely important for human health and well-being, also when you are hospitalized or depend on others to help you with the daily washing. Water, soap and towels are widely used for bed bathing; however, it is a time consuming practice involving physical strain, discomfort and potentially damage to fragile. In recent years, different methods of washing without water have become more and more popular at hospitals and nursing homes.
To meet this demand, Abena has developed a new wet wash glove optimized for full body wash. The glove is dermatologically tested and free of perfume, preservatives, alcohol, parabens and allergens to avoid allergic reactions, dry skin or other adverse effects.
The new Abena gloves have been tested during a three year scientific research project at the University Hospital Radboud in Holland1 . The study showed potential cost savings in the bed bath process of 50%, and a high satisfaction level among patients and care-givers .
“We have developed and tested the new wet wash glove in close cooperation with skin experts and experienced care-givers to create a product that makes daily washing much easier for patient and staff, leaving the patients with a pleasant feeling of being clean and refreshed”, says Ken Gregersen, Global Category Manager for Body Wash and Skin Care.
The new wet wash glove comes in hygienic 8 pieces packages for a full body wash. Tests at the Radboud hospital have shown that a full body wash with the new gloves takes only about 13 minutes, about half the time of a traditional bed wash with water and soap.
At the same time, the studies at Radboud proved that both care-givers and patients experience less physical strain with the wet wash gloves. The bed bath without water is experienced as both more comfortable and relaxed according to the patients. and 94 % of the patients say that they feel clean and refreshed after the wash.
“Patients’ comfort and dignity are pivotal in all our product development, and we are pleased to be able to offer a product that is characterized as more comfortable and less strainful”, says Ken Gregersen.
The new Abena wet wash gloves are made from a special patented woven texture that make the gloves extremely efficient in the daily personal hygiene. The gloves are disposable and reduce the risk of infections. The gloves are part of the Abena Wash without Water portfolio also comprising wipes, soaps and lotions, and caps for hair wash.
