Baking cups and sandwich paper can be found in most kitchens around the world. If you choose products labelled with the Nordic Ecolabel, you avoid unnecessary and dangerous chemicals.
Most conventional grease-proof paper intended for use with food is treated with a surface coating containing fluorochemical in order to make it grease- and water-resistant. This surface treatment protects the paper and food when cooking, but can be harmful to humans and nature.
Burger and sandwich paper with the Nordic Ecolabel has gone through a process that is not dangerous to humans or nature. Either the wood fibers are treated mechanically to become naturally greaseproof, or the surface of the paper has been treated with a natural substance.
Baking paper has different properties than other papers intended for food, as it is coated with silicone to ensure its non-stick effect. When paper is coated with silicone, it cannot also be coated with fluorochemicals. Therefore, baking paper does not contain fluorochemical coating. However, baking paper with the Nordic Ecolabel is still the natural choice in order to avoid unnecessary added chemicals.
You can find a full list of food paper products with the Nordic Ecolabel at Ecolabel.com or read more about Ecolabelled burger paper.
