ABENA is proud to announce its submission of a commitment letter to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), further solidifying our dedication to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.
Andrea Adamov, Head of Global Sustainability & Compliance in ABENA
A step towards sustainability
The commitment marks a significant milestone in ABENA’s ongoing journey with sustainability. By committing to the SBTi, ABENA has pledged to set science-based emissions reduction targets that align with the latest climate science. This includes aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, as set out in the Paris Agreement, and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest.
“By joining the SBTi, we are taking a large step to ensure our emissions reduction targets are not only ambitious but also scientifically grounded. This commitment reflects our core principles of innovation, quality, knowledge, and responsibility in sustainable stewardship”, says Andrea Adamov, Head of Global Sustainability & Compliance in ABENA.
The importance of Science-Based Targets
The SBTi is a global initiative that guides companies in setting emissions reduction targets based on the latest climate science. These targets are designed to help businesses contribute meaningfully to global decarbonization efforts, ensuring that their operations align with the climate goals outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
As part of its commitment, ABENA will work with the SBTi to set its targets in a transparent and credible manner. This includes evaluating the company’s emissions across its entire value chain, identifying key areas for reduction, and implementing strategies that align with science-based benchmarks.
ABENA’s commitment to the future
This move follows ABENA’s longstanding commitment to sustainability. In 2019, ABENA set three climate targets to be met by 2030. These targets includes a reduction in CO2 emissions, while also increasing the number of products with third-party ecolabels and products including bio-based or recycled materials.
"Joining the SBTi is the natural next step in our work with sustainability and the targets we have pursued up until now. We're excited about the next step of the process and to work alongside other industry leaders to drive measurable change for the planet," says Andrea Adamov, Head of Global Sustainability & Compliance in ABENA.
